Read the Chairman's statement on the new tariffs below.

“This tariff action is both overdue and directly in line with bipartisan recommendations in the Select Committee’s economic policy report in December. We must act with urgency to further reduce dependence on the PRC and prevent a surge in Chinese exports from decimating U.S. industry and workers and undermining our national security. Congress and the Administration must be ready to work in a bipartisan manner to strengthen our economy while supporting American farmers and workers who face retaliation from the CCP.”

Monday, Chairman Moolenaar alongside U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE), and Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) wrote to Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, calling on her administration to establish sister city ties with Taipei, Taiwan.

The lawmakers write, “We write to urge you and your administration to establish sister city ties with Taipei. Congress, and the city of Washington, D.C., have long played a leading role in U.S.-Taiwan relations, and the greater Washington metropolitan area is home to one of the largest Taiwanese American populations in the country.”

Moolenaar on Commerce Department Adding Chinese Entities Linked to Spy Balloon to Entity List

Monday, Chairman Moolenaar released the following statement on the Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security's announcement adding dozens of Chinese entities to its exports curbs list, including firms that supported the “high altitude balloon” that flew over the U.S. in February 2023.

“The spy balloon was a violation of American sovereignty and these related Entity List additions are a welcome although overdue step, as are the quantum-related listings. BIS must keep the momentum going and continue listing companies that are helping the Chinese military and the CCP’s human rights abuses. This should start with PRC biotech companies like WuXi Apptec, MGI, all of BGI’s subsidiaries, as well as PRC drone firms like Autel. The CCP constantly seeks new ways to bypass our export controls, and we must be equally as adaptive.”
