WATCH: “Some will say, ‘The battle is lost. Hong Kong has fallen to the CCP, and we need to accept the oppression of its new rulers.’ But I reject that. Our Select Committee believes that freedom will be the victor.” - Chairman Moolenaar kicks of the Select Committee's roundtable.

On Thursday, the Select Committee held a roundtable on U.S. policy to resist Chinese Communist Party's destruction of freedom and democracy in Hong Kong and defend dissidents here in America.

Hong Kong human rights activist Joey Siu, Frances Hui of the Committee on Freedom in Hong Kong Foundation and member of Jimmy Lai's legal team, Jonathan Price, urged the State Department and Congress to take action before it's too late.

Wednesday, Chairman Moolenaar and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) urged the U.S. Department of Justice to open an investigation into the Drone Advocacy Alliance, which is funded by Communist Chinese drone company DJI, for potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

In the letter, the lawmakers state, “CCP-controlled drone company DJI is sponsoring and using the Drone Advocacy Alliance to market DJI drones as critical lifesaving tools that do not pose risks to U.S. national security. However, the opposite is the case. DJI is directly facilitating genocidal crimes, arming the Chinese military, and advancing the strategic objectives of the CCP, an adversary that threatens U.S. national security.”

Monday, Chairman Moolenaar and Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi released the following statement on Taiwan's inauguration of new President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim.

"We congratulate President Lai on his inauguration and look forward to working with him on the issues facing Taiwan and the United States. In February, we had the privilege of meeting with President-elect Lai alongside the newly elected leadership of the Legislative Yuan, and we assured them that Taiwan has a strong partner in us and our colleagues in Congress.

The people of Taiwan have achieved decades of continued prosperity in the face of continuous threats and harassment from the CCP. Today’s inauguration is a promising reminder of Taiwan’s enduring commitment to democracy and how people around the world cherish the same freedoms and liberties we hold dear as Americans."

On Thursday, Chairman Moolenaar and Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi released a subsequent statement in response to the Chinese military drills encircling Taiwan following the inauguration.

“The Chinese Communist Party’s brazen attempt to intimidate Taiwan following its free and fair elections and the inauguration of President Lai Ching-te is completely unacceptable. This action only reinforces the need for the U.S. to take concrete steps to help strengthen Taiwan’s defenses and deter the CCP’s aggression. The United States and the international community must stand firm with our friends in Taiwan as they face the CCP’s unfounded attempts to intimidate democratic societies around the world.”
