Letter to Department of Justice on Small Business Intellectual Property Theft

Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Chairman of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party and Roger Williams (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business today delivered a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland seeking insight into the DOJ's efforts to combat Chinese intellectual property theft. The Chairmen seek a detailed briefing no later than June 30th to discuss DOJ’s initiatives to protect American small businesses from illegal CCP IP theft.
After sending the letter to Attorney General Garland, Chairman Gallagher said,“Small businesses are on the front lines of the economic war that the Chinese Communist Party is waging against America. Chairman Williams and I look forward to learning more about the measures Attorney General Garland has in place to protect American businesses from the CCP’s intellectual property theft and what more Congress can do to protect small businesses from the CCP’s economic coercion.”
Chairman Williams added, “Thanks to the efforts of the Chinese Communist Party, Main Street America is growing increasingly vulnerable to the intellectual property theft of cutting-edge technologies.Chinese intellectual property theft is estimated to cost the taxpayer $600 billion per year. Congress must force the Biden Administration to do more in protecting our nation’s innovation and national security assets, and I look forward to working alongside Chairman Gallagher and our colleagues to protect American small businesses and hold China accountable for their crimes.”
