Moolenaar: FCC's Action Makes Country More Secure
Today, Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar supported the Federal Communications Commission’s decision to further restrict the importation of high-risk Chinese telecommunications gear to the United States by closing loopholes that had allowed the continued U.S. sale of previously approved telecommunications equipment made by Chinese companies including Huawei and Hikvision.
“Telecommunications providers and equipment makers are vital to the infrastructure of our nation and Americans depend on having safe, secure, and reliable connections for everything they do. That’s why we cannot be dependent on Chinese suppliers for this equipment. China’s telecommunications companies are tools of the Chinese Communist Party and can be used for cybersecurity attacks against our country. The FCC’s unanimous action today will close loopholes exploited by China and make our country’s infrastructure more secure,” said Moolenaar.
The FCC voted unanimously earlier today.
