Select Committee Issues Subpoena on Clandestine Chinese Lab

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party has issued its first subpoena as part of its ongoing investigation into the clandestine Chinese laboratory that local authorities uncovered in Reedley, California.
“It is deeply disturbing that a Chinese company set up a clandestine facility in small-town America that contained, per the CDC, ‘at least 20 potentially infectious agents’ like HIV and the deadliest known form of malaria. We are grateful to the city of Reedley for their cooperation," said Rep. Gallagher. "The American people deserve answers, and we will get to the bottom of this issue to ensure our adversaries are not endangering the safety of Americans on our soil."
According to the CDC, this clandestine facility had “at least 20 potentially infectious agents,” including HIV, tuberculosis, and the deadliest known form of malaria. All of these agents were stored in a warehouse across from a residential neighborhood and within a short walk from the town’s city hall, high school, and water supply.
The friendly subpoena issued to the City resulted in the Select Committee acquiring thousands of pages of documents, hundreds of photographs, and hours of video.
Following the subpoena, the Select Committee established that the medical device companies that set up the clandestine facility, Universal Meditech Inc. and Prestige Biotech Inc., are tied to Chinese companies and Chinese nationals. These organizations and their officers are also implicated in major fraud investigations and other misconduct in multiple countries.
