Newsom poses for wannabe presidential photo-ops with Chinese Communists and naively ignores their awful record. Now REP MIKE GALLAGHER says what Gavin won't... Here's how Beijing pollutes the planet, steals from the US and enslaves millions

'Divorce is not an option,' tweeted Gavin Newsom's official account as the California governor swanned around China preaching the gospel of climate change.

There have been a lot of D-words thrown around to describe evolving US-China relations – decoupling, de-risking, diversifying, disentangling – but Newsom's marital metaphor was a new one.

Perhaps nuptials were on Newsom's mind because Xi Jinping treated him to a week-long honeymoon, clearly attuned to Newsom's presidential aspirations and eager for a relationship with a younger, more naïve administration.

I have criticized President Biden's diplomatic accommodation of Beijing, but Newsom's egregious overseas display makes Biden's foreign policy look like Bismark-level realpolitik.

To believe that the Communist Party of China (CCP) could be a trusted partner on environmental issues, is, as Oscar Wilde said about second marriages, the triumph of hope over experience.

Let's look at the CCP's environmental record: According to the World Bank, the People's Republic of China (PRC) is responsible for 33% of all global greenhouse emissions, more than every developed country combined.

And while the United States and Europe are reducing carbon emissions, in China emissions continue to skyrocket, increasing 10% between 2022 to 2023 alone.

Last year, the CCP opened an average of two new coal plants every week, which is six times more than the rest of the world combined, and in the last year alone, China approved more coal plant capacity than exists on the continent of Europe.

No wonder air pollution in China causes a staggering two million deaths a year, according to the WHO.
